Day trip · Nara & the deer
Easy day trip — 45 minutes by train. Nara Park is hundreds of free-roaming deer that bow for crackers, Todai-ji's Great Buddha, lots of grass and benches. The grandparent-and-toddler dream day.

- JR Nara Line from Kyoto Station, ~45 min. Or Kintetsu Limited Express ~35 min, drops you closer to Nara Park.
Nara Park · feed the deer
Hundreds of friendly deer. Buy shika senbei (deer crackers, ¥200) from the vendors. The deer bow for crackers. Rosetta will lose her mind. Linda + Kerry can sit on a bench and watch.

Todai-ji · the Great Buddha
World's largest wooden building (until recently). 15-meter bronze Buddha inside. Easy walk from the park, mostly flat.
Lunch in Naramachi
Old merchant district — cafes in machiya, kid-friendly udon places, small bakeries.
More park time / Kasuga Taisha lanterns (optional)
If everyone has energy: the lantern shrine in the woods, ~20 min walk through forest. If not: more deer, more grass, head back early.
Train back to Kyoto
Easy dinner near the hotel
Group is tired. Department-store basement (Daimaru depachika is right here) for takeout, eat at the suite. Or okonomiyaki nearby.
